Blue-checked X user misrepresents police brutality video as display of Pakistan–Afghanistan tensions
There is no evidence the video shows Punjabi police officers. Reliable news outlets reported the police officers in the video were from Peshawar. The reports do not mention the nationality of the alleged criminal. -
“BREAKING: We ordered the border forces of 3 provinces to attack Pakistan. Currently our operation is going on. We have captured 9 Pakistani posts & torched them. Significant damage to Pak Army brigade hq in our retaliation, says Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid.”
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid made no such statement, and Afghanistan did not invade Pakistan. -
The Arabic calligraphy printed on the fabric of a woman’s dress was the word “Halwa.” It had nothing to do with the Quranic verses or blasphemy.
-
“The Pakistani army entered Iran and struck and destroyed a number of bases belonging to terrorist separatist groups based in Iran with missiles and drones.”
No credible sources reported that Pakistani troops entered Iran. There is no evidence of ties between Pakistan’s armed forces and the blue-checked X account that posted a statement on the Pakistani army’s behalf. -
Human rights groups and trusted media outlets have confirmed that Pakistan has been deporting Afghan refugees awaiting resettlement in the United States.

“It seems like the Americans deliberately left these weapons there, and now they are destabilizing the situation because terrorists may get hold of them.”
Washington had provided the Afghan security forces the weapons to fight the militants. The Taliban seized those weapons after the U.S. withdrawal. -
“[T]he U.S. side might as well do something real and beneficial for the people of Pakistan.”
The U.S. is giving large sums of humanitarian aid to Pakistan. China is misrepresenting U.S. concern about Islamabad’s debt to Beijing. -
“The U.S. wants such leadership in the country [Pakistan] that follows its orders, and [it] brought them to the power for its own use.”
With a political comeback in mind, the deposed ex-prime minister is bashing the United States – with no evidence to back his election-meddling claims. -
“The further development of the situation leaves no doubt that the United States decided to punish the ‘disobedient’ Imran Khan.”
Pakistani P.M. provides no serious proof the U.S. conspired to oust him after refusing to condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. -
“The report by certain media on anti-China protests in the Gwadar region is completely groundless.”
Protesters in Gwadar, Pakistan, demanded the eviction of Chinese “trawler mafia.” Local discontent against China’s presence has been growing. -
“We seriously reject the report of Human Rights Watch, which said that the Mujahideen of the Islamic Emirate allegedly committed war crimes. The organization should not base its reports on misinformation.”
There is powerful evidence the Taliban have committed war crimes against former Afghan government personnel and journalists. -
“There will be no restriction on media freedom [with the new Pakistan Media Development Authority]"
Critics say the new media regulator will be able to punish and censor independent, critical media coverage of the government.
